Choosing the right apparel—not your ratty college tee, thank you very much—will go a long way to improving your fitness gains. For instance, a top that wicks away sweat will allow you to focus on your form instead of wiping your brow every couple of seconds. Here are the six brands that you need to know—and the clothes that you need to cop—to up your game.

Foehn

The mountain is the playground and ultimately the inspiration for this proudly Quebecois brand. “Each season we create gear to address activities relating to our playground,” says Ingrid Sirois, who co-founded Foehn with Anthony Boronowski in 2019.

For spring-summer 2022, Sirois and Boronowski fixed their designer’s minds to mountain biking, running, and outdoor exploration, and created a collection that they call “multi-athletic.” This means that the pieces—and the innovations they come with—are not restricted to one type of activity. The Anderson windbreaker, for example, fits seamlessly into a runner’s ensemble as it would a biker’s. In the same vein, the Keats merino wool T-shirt will find its place in your gym bag or carry-on luggage. “Travel is inherent in the design,” says Boronowski. “[The] foundation of the product comes from combining great raw material with great textiles with more considered design, appropriate for a modern look.”

Lululemon

Talk to anyone about yoga apparel brands, and Lululemon will probably figure on top of people’s minds—and for good reason. The brand’s iconic women’s leggings exorcised the notion that athleticwear cannot go beyond the four walls of a yoga studio. The Vancouver, Canada-based company offers men’s and women’s clothing that blurs the line between workout and après-entraînement—think quick-dry polo shirts, joggers that keep their shape, and water-repellant parkas.

rnnr

Although the lightweight hat is designed for use by runners (the team behind rnnr is, after all, a group of folks who are passionate about running), anybody looking to stay comfortable as they’re breaking a sweat outdoors will benefit from its ventilating side mesh panels and SPDWick quick-drying and ultra-breathable fabric.

TLF Apparel

These gym shorts feature dual-concealed side pockets that help keep your accessories in place instead of flopping around (and—horror—falling off). They have the brand’s Infi-Stretch DNA technology that provides a four-way stretch and bounce-back properties to help maintain their original, relaxed fit.

Ridge Merino

Ridge Merino came to be when one of its co-founders, while working for a major ski brand, noticed how the pros preferred merino wool over synthetic layers. This sparked the company’s mission: To create pro-level apparel from this sustainable fabric, and make their products accessible to everyone.

The lightweight, UPF30+ Solstice pullover hoodie—as with the rest of the collection—was designed and tested at one of the best proving grounds for activewear: California’s Mammoth Lakes. There, the clothes are put through their paces with the high desert and deep snow conditions found in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, guaranteeing that those that make it through will perform just as well with their customers’ adventures.

SAXX

Although Saxx’s biggest draw is their supersoft technical underwear (each pair has the patented BallPark Pouch for your privates), their clothing ain’t no slouch. The Hot Shot SS Crew is an all-around T-shirt that is made with the DropTemp Cooling Technology. In a nutshell, the fabric moves moisture away from your skin the moment you perspire, helping you cool down faster and eliminating that uncomfortable feeling of a soaked garment clinging to your chest.
